Introduction

“In less time than takes to find a job you could start your own business.”

I know that’s a bold statement. But I can prove it.

When someone is laid off, they typically scurry to get resumes printed and mailed, follow all the help wanted classified ads, and make lots of contacts.

After a while — say in 2 months, 4 months, or more – there’s a lot less activity. And no matter how hard they try, they simply can’t spend 40+ hours a week looking for a job or sending out resumes.calendar

My goal is to help you build a business based on your life experiences so that you are able to create a practical short-term revenue stream to replace your lost income.

In a nutshell, here’s my 3-step process.

Step 1: The first thing you and I do is help you identify your “transferable skills.”

What exactly are “transferable skills?” Everyone has skills and experience that they could capitalize on and leverage into a business of their own… and these skills can be packaged and consolidated into one or more activities that make money. For example…

  • An unemployed executive secretary could take her propensity for being organized, orderly, reliable, and a good communicator, and transfer those attributes into a business as a virtual assistant… working for a number of business owners or professionals who can’t afford a full-time assistant, but would be willing to contract with the virtual assistant.
  • An unemployed inside sales person with a friendly, outgoing personality – and fearless about cold calling and talking on the phone – could take his skills and form a telemarketing business that helps several businesses set appointments.
  • An unemployed marketing manager with an aptitude for working with I and other “social media” could form a business to teach people over 50 how to use these technologies that are so necessary in today’s highly competitive marketplace.

You won’t have to “guess” at what skills are best for you to leverage. I provide you with a systematic approach for arriving at the best decision.

Step 2: The second major step will be to determine what your business is… what it sells… and to whom. Every business sells something… every business has a target audience. Once again, you and I will take a systematic approach to answer this… and many more questions that must be answered… as we formulate a business that’s suitable for you.

Part of my mission is to help you find a business that you can get into without spending a great deal of money. So when we work through this exercise, we’ll be extremely practical… no grandiose business ideas that would cost a fortune, take years to accomplish, or require that you go back to school.

Step 3: The third step in the fast-start process is to create an action plan to make it all happen. The best business idea in the world won’t be action-planworth the paper it’s printed on… unless your put the plan in play… and take action. The action can’t be sporadic. It needs to be just as organized as our first two steps.

Together, you and I will build a custom action plan for you that will accomplish the most critical goal that I shared with you before you joined From Unemployed To Self-Employed. That is to help you make money sooner than later.

So the first order of business when you become a member is to work through these three (3) steps. We’ll come back to fill in the blanks (the attorney, banker, licensing and permits, accountant, etc.).

These 3 first steps take about 4 weeks. At the end of those 4 weeks you’ll have a mini-business plan. You can build on this mini-business plan and expand it as times goes on.

I keep things simple. For example, I keep you from being distracted by business start up activities that burn time (because they’re happening too early in the start up process). In other words, I help you avoid making mistakes that could choke your business before it gets started.

The goal always is to build an efficient revenue stream just as quickly as possible.
